Digital News Unit: Channel Logo

Much thought went into our channel logo, as we wanted it to be professional as well as contain sporting conventions to make it clear to our target audience.

The first thing we discussed was the layout, with all of us coming up with different ideas. I came up with the idea of having "TTV" with the letters being cleverly placed to resemble our channel name. I originally thought we could have the letters going down in a diagonal shape, but then Chris came up with the idea of having it symmetrical (as shown below). Once we got it on the screen, we all agreed that was a great choice.

Next we had to decide on the typography as this is key to a successful logo. We all had the same idea of what we wanted the typography to be, with blocked capitals being the main point. This was an easy decision as we all recognised a common theme in other sports logos.

The final, and probably hardest decision we had to make was the colour. Helen raised a good point about making sure the colours didn't resemble a particular team, e.g. red symbolises Manchester United, so we wanted neutral colours that went well together. In the end we decided on orange and purple as they met the criteria and gives the logo a rather sporty look.

After that I raised the point of having "Tekkers TV" at the bottom of the logo, as no one would know what the letters would stand for, plus other logos use the same convention.

Overall we are all very happy with the logo, and it will feature in the top left corner of our news piece.
