Documentary Unit: Project Brief

Project Brief

Within your groups, you are challenged to conceive, develop, script, shoot and edit an original 10’ documentary which fits the following brief:

BBC3 –  ‘My Hero’ – stories of heroism.
      Or
Canterbury Cathedral – film for their YouTube channel about the artists and artisans work to keep the beauty of the cathedral alive

The project is split into two creative pipelines, which you must follow to complete the project successfully.

Part 1: The pitch & prep:

1)    The idea for the documentary must be finalised and presented as a 25-50 word pitch (like a tv listings billing) together with the creative vision for its visuals and storytelling approach, details of access regarding proposed characters and locations (real possibilities not just a wish list!) and explain the relevance of your choices - the pitch session on Mon 17th March.
2)    The completed draft script (typed, printed and properly formatted) and evidence of accompanying research (either on blog or hard copy) must be submitted on Mon 24th March 1500 - 1700.
3)    YOU WILL NOT be allowed to proceed into the production phase unless this is submitted by the above deadline.

Part 2: The shoot & edit

1)    Using your script as the blueprint you must then continue to research and set up your shoot arranging all relevant : scheduling, cast, crew, locations, shotlist/storyboard.
2)    The final version of the film (on DVD/CD) and all relevant research and development work (on the blog) must be submitted by 1500-1700hr on Monday 12th May.
